ACTION REQUIRED BY YOU!
Comment period open with Office of Management and Budget
PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD ENDS APRIL 30, 2017
The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) sets the federal standards for collecting race and ethnicity data by all federal agencies such as the Census Bureau, Department of Education, Department of Justice, etc. As part of MASC’s advocacy mission we bring attention to issues relevant to the multiracial community, especially events that require action from you!
In 1997, after the OMB authorized marking one or more race, it was about a DECADE before it was implented nationwide and still hasn’t been implemented consistently. We can’t allow this to happen again! The comment period is almost over. Don’t let this opportunity pass you by.
MASC has reviewed the OMB’s recent request for public comment and have prepared the following response to their most critical questions. Note the questions have been paraphrased:
What do we need from you?
We need you to leave a comment with the OMB.

Feel free to cut and paste the statement or write your own and submit to the following site HERE.

If you don’t think the Federal data collection standards make much of a difference, see this piece from MASC President Thomas Lopez describing how data collection methods can tell very different stories.
